Four Faces of Expressing Christ

Graduation season is upon us. Many saints will be leaving a familiar environment of the full-time training or college to start a new phase of life. A common concern for saints starting a job or graduate school program is how to relate to their new colleagues or classmates. Some may simply be worried about the negative influence of worldly peers. Others may have an aspiration to contact others for the sake of the gospel, but feel uncertain about doing so with close, long-term acquaintances. Yet others may feel limited by professional regulations or academic mores regarding overt gospel preaching. How then can a graduate student

Serving the Lord Full-Time (2)

Romans 14:7-8: “For none of us lives to himself, and none dies to himself; for whether we live, we live to the Lord, and whether we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore whether we live or we die, we are the Lord’s.” After Brother Lee discusses who should be full-time in chapter 7 of Elder’s Training, Book 8, he goes on to explain exactly what it means to serve the Lord full-time in chapter 8. The real meaning of being full-time is to live to Him. To go full-time does not mean to drop your job and become a preacher. It does not mean

Serving the Lord Full-Time (1)

Many of us have a heart for the Lord and His recovery, but may be discouraged by our circumstances because we are “stuck” in school or work, while others are “freed” from these constraints to serve the Lord in a full-time way.  These thoughts often stem from the concept many of us share that only those who have dropped their jobs are serving the Lord full-time. Brother Witness Lee addresses this concept in chapter 7 of Elder’s Training Book 8: Romans 12:1 says, “I beg you therefore, brothers, through the compassions of God to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, well-pleasing to God, which is

Stones for God’s building

And they said to one another, Come, let us make bricks and burn them thoroughly.  And they had brick for stone, and they had tar for mortar.  And they said, Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower whose top is in the heavens; and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered over the surface of the whole earth.  – Genesis 11:3-4 In Message 36 of the Life-Study of Genesis, Brother Witness Lee makes it quite clear that the building of the tower of Babel is a vivid picture of what is happening in society today, both in school and

Seizing the Opportunity

Any student in a graduate program will tell you that they are busy. In addition to the demands of attending class, doing research, writing papers, and studying for tests, many have to take care of their wife, children, work, and matters of daily life.  While anyone in the world would be dismayed facing such a multitude of tasks, it is no wonder that the added charge of being a living, active, functioning member of the Body bearing responsibility in the church life can be altogether overwhelming. But Brother Tym Seay shared an encouraging word in the fellowship with the working saints during the winter training:

A Purposeful Education

As a continuation in the current line of posts regarding education, the following is Brother Witness Lee’s testimony regarding his realization of the purpose of his life and education (taken from A Blessed Human Life). We all need to make the best choice.  Even if a person becomes the president of a nation or the principal of a school, in the end he is nothing more than pile of dust, sand, wood, and other elements. Only when we gain God, when we gain Christ, have we made the best choice.  When I entered to study at a junior college, I was clear in my heart

An Education for the Spread of the Lord’s Recovery

Brother Witness Lee spoke many times about the importance of education.  However, as many of us pursue higher degrees and further training, we may begin to lose sight of why we set out to obtain such an education in the first place.  In A Blessed Human Life, Brother Witness Lee touches on these points and reminds us that everything we do should be with a view to the Lord’s move on the earth. You all are studying hard, longing for and striving toward successfully completing your education.  For this, I ask the Lord to bless you all that each one of you may be successful

A Calibrating View of Education

We all know that Brother Witness Lee often charged the young people to pursue higher education. In the book God, Education, and Character, he even says, “According to my experience of human life, education is next only to God” (ch. 1, section 1). Based upon this kind of fellowship, many of us young adults in the Lord’s recovery are pursuing advanced education in medical, law, business, or graduate school. Having taken this path, it is helpful to be reminded of why we are continuing our education. In the book A Blessed Human Life, Brother Lee provides just such a reminder. He exhorts us not to
